THE U-GOV PROJECT: VISION AND BENEFITS
U-GOV is a new integrated information system designed uniquely for Higher Education Institutions. It’s aimed at defining objectives, strategies and means for achieving and monitoring results. U-GOV combines applications for the management of the main administration areas of Universities in a single systemic vision. Personnel, accounting, research, learning and student services coexist in a unique and integrated architectural environment, together with decision support tools.
U-GOV is therefore an ongoing project. It started in 2005 from the need to reduce the complexity of information systems for University, simplifying technological and applicative infrastructures and handling of administrative processes. In order to deal with such an ambitious project, collaboration was promoted from the beginning with Universities which provided an important contribution by means of the skills and professional capacities they had available.
CINECA FOR HIGHER EDUCATION
CINECA is a non profit Consortium, made up of 36 Italian Universities, The National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics (OGS), the National Research Council (CNR) and the Italian Ministry of University and Research. It was founded in 1969 as an Interuniversity Consortium and has become the largest high performance computing center in Italy and among the most important worldwide. Today this non-profit organization works as a high technology threefold partnership between the academic world, research and the world of industry and public administration.
CINECA has been developing Information Technology applications to University administrative offices since the end of the 80's. In 1999 the Consortium founded Kion, an owned company which is focused on IT systems for students and learning services. Beside these applications CINECA and Kion provide a full range of services which includes consulting, training, hosting and technical support. This activity has made CINECA today one of the main contact points for Universities for ICT and management issues.
Communication Builder helps universities in planning, building and monitoring effective communication through digital channels towards all of its targets.
